What girl wouldn't want a new makeup bag?  I'm no exception.  I thought these were just the cutest things when I saw them.  The top they are calling black and the bottom one they are calling pink.   Both come with an attached mirror on the inside and five (5) stitched slots in the lid to hold your mascara, tubes of lipstick or any other thing that may come in a tube.  They each have a double zipper on the closure so you can use one or both to open the top.

I bought this because my last change/coin purse was getting a little discolored from all the coins in it and all the use.  In this particular coin purse it is larger than my last one and is big enough to carry coins, charge cards, your i.d., and dollars. 

What I didn't like about this coin purse though is that it doesn't snap closed.  You have to manually twist the two beads at the top to get it closed.

I must admit I have a new obsession and it's scarves.  I think I can blame my grandmother for this.  Long before there were woolen hats and caps and other head wear there were scarves.  

The label on this particular scarf indicates that it is 40% silk and 60% viscose and is machine washable on delicate cycle in cold water, no dryer. 

I like scarves because they are so versatile.  They can be used as a head covering, a shawl, a belt or even a runner for a table top.

I bought these because I eat a lot of pistachio's and thought this would be a nifty little item to crack open those shells that aren't cracked open enough to get with my fingers.  

After all the product description says:

Wrong.  Totally didn't work for getting those babies open.  I had to revert back to a regular nut cracker.  It's been several weeks since I tried the "scissors" so I can't remember if my pistachio's were too big or too small.  I just know the scissors did not work.  If I ever get sunflower seeds I will give it another try.  But for now these are going into the drawer where all the other somewhat useless gadgets go.

Vintage Floral Recipe Cards

What cook doesn't have a stash of recipe cards.  I was drawn to these cards because of the floral design on them.  There are 50 cards to a pack.  They are 4x6 and on heavy card stock paper.  There is lots of room to write ingredients and both sides of the card are lined. 

Due to the size they don't fit into a 3x5 index card box.  I'm sure there are probably larger card boxes but I chose to store mine in a photo book which was small but large enough to hold the card.

I came across this little gem while browsing Amazon and thought I would buy it.  The description states that it is 925 Sterling Silver.  It feels very heavy and looks like a school of fish swimming on your finger.  It also states the ring is adjustable but I wear a size 8 and this looks to be about a size 5.  I don't want to stretch the ring out 3 sizes so I will pass this onto to someone else.  Overall I think this would make a cute little ring for a young girl.

Iphone 6 Charger

Once you've attached yourself to a 6ft. cable you will never go back to those little small ones the phone places give you.    I had a 6ft. cable prior to getting this one but I had it attached to a generic adapter which after some use just fell apart.  At that point I had to switch back to the Iphone adapter and that cord not being Iphone compatible no longer worked.  So my search began for a 6ft. cord that was compatible with my Iphone adapter.  

I was a little hesitant at first because a lot of things say they are compatible and really aren't.    But this one is true to the printing on the package.  I hooked it up to my Iphone adapter and have been a happy camper ever since.  Now I just wish my adapter had two slots so I can get another cord for the Ipad....then I'd really be a happier camper.

At last a water bottle that does not have a flip top.  This water bottle will probably be the last water bottle I ever buy.   I love the sleek feel to it.  It has a twist off cap that has a rubber seal and can hold 17 ounces of liquid.  Today I gave it a test run with some iced tea and loved that I didn't run out of 'drink' the very first sip.  I was out for about two hours and my beverage stayed cold.  Nor did it leak.  It is very easy to pour into and easy to drink out of.  I didn't get that dreaded hole in my lip that most water bottles give.   The inside looks like the old time thermos bottles.

I saw ads for this thing on Face Book and when I came across this in my online shopping frenzy I just had to give it a try.  I imagine it's geared more for builders and guys who do a lot of intricate design type of stuff but girls like tools too.

It has screws in it that loosen so you can maneuver the tool into what ever shape you need.  Tighten the screws and viola you are ready to go.   There are two measurements marked off on the template, one is inches, and the other is probably centimeters.  

My intended purpose for this tool is to create a geometric design on a bedroom wall, tape it and then paint it.  As you can see from my photos the template can twist to just about any shape.  I can't wait to test it out.

OMAICA Handmade Leather Journal

When I came across this leather journal the writer in me just had to get it.  It arrived very quickly in the mail.  While the journal tries to portray an old timey look you can tell it is put together very quickly.  The ornamental stitching looks like it could come loose with any significant use and once it does the whole thing will fall apart.

The paper inside is stapled to a separate piece of leather which is held in place by the ornamental stitching on the front.  The ad on Amazon indicates you can replace the paper but I really don't see how that's possible if everything is stitched together.  But I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

A writing utensil is included with this piece and I was very pleasantly surprised to find the wooden pencil was actually an ink pen.  The pouch for the pen is a nice container and slides into a ing on the cover to keep it with the journal.  However that aspect of the journal is strictly for looks and not functionality because the loop is rather large and the pencil/pen case will easily slide out if held vertical to the floor.

I found the pen very difficult to get out of its holder.  I practically had to fold the edges over to get the pen out.  Younger fingers may find it easier to do but I found it very difficult if not almost impossible.

Overall this is a nice little journaling set.  And did I mention the nice leather smell?

Magnetic Menu/Memo Board

I was given the opportunity to check out this product. I had been seeing this being posted by others and so I was eagerly waiting for it to arrive. Almost on pins and needles. And then it came. The very first thing I noticed and liked about it right away was the size. A nice big size to see and to write on. The second thing I liked about it was that fact that it was magnetic. I removed the old small paper memo/planner thing I had on my refrigerator (had to clean the space up, but that beside the point) and put this nice new one in it's place. The next thing I noticed was that it DID NOT come with a dry erase pen. My daughter told me she has a nice white chalk dry erase pen but it's at her house and not not mine. So I went out and bought a nice package of neon colored pens. The lighter and brighter colors work the best, like the yellow, the orange, the pink. I'm kind of curious as to how the white will work. The board is very easy to clean and the ink comes off easy peasy. In addtion I like the layout. There is a section to plan your week's menu, a section to keep tabs on groceries you might need AND a section for notes for activities you might want to keep track of during the week. A win-win in my book because the one I threw away definitely could not handle all that writing or all those things.

New Projects

Now that I've finished Kassidy's quilt and determined that I do not like quilt making I have two other daughters who are standing in line for their quilts.  Like I said in my earlier blog there is a definite learning curve in making these things and I'm going to apply what I've learned to the next one.  That being said I received Amber's materials in the mail today.

And I received a very special material for Jamie's quilt.  I'm rolling with laughter inside on her quilt.  An inside joke.

Well with the changes in Amazon's reviewing rules I've moved back to my pre-review endeavors.  There is a definite learning curve but I finished the quilt I was making for my youngest daughter.
